Detailed specifics
Overview
Quirks are emergent mechanical anomalies that develop in the player’s vehicle during exploration.
By playing, unusual cause-and-effect relationships are created between vehicle components.
- Turning the steering wheel may cause the horn to honk
- Toggling the headlights may open a door.
- Breaking the car might result in the wheels popping off.
The system basically functions as a diagnostic puzzle where the player observes unexpected behavior, deduces the hidden rule connecting two vehicle actions, and resolves the issue through a repair interface.
Rules
Each quirk follows a structured rule:
When [Component A] performs [Action], [Component B] performs [Behavior].
Players identify quirks through observation during normal driving and are encouraged to experiment with vehicle controls to isolate the triggering condition. The goal is to identify four parameters:
-
The triggering component
-
The triggering action
-
The affected component
-
The resulting behavior
Correctly identifying the full rule removes the quirk.
